Washington Unified is committed to the social-emotional well-being of students.  We know that many students are exposed to adverse childhood experiences that impact their ability to learn.  This is why West Fresno Elementary and Middle School Counselors Mary Xiong and Neda Musleh got together with School Social Worker Crystal Avila to introduce a powerful new tool for students.

Students can now use the Counseling Self-Referral form, located on the school website, to ask for help or counseling.  “Self-advocacy is something we have to teach our students.  They need to know that they can safely ask for help and that there are resources at school available to them,” stated Avila.

Staff is monitoring the effectiveness of the new tool in hopes to share with other district schools.
