Washington Union High School successfully wrapped up its first annual “Unity Week,” with the goal of furthering the school’s mission that: “Students will demonstrate positive character traits that contribute to the quality of the school and community, an understanding of world viewpoints,  the interpersonal skills necessary to work collaboratively in a culturally diverse setting.”

Associated Student Body (ASB) leaders hosted the event with help from many campus organizations including, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Class, the Black Student Union (BSU), the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA), Washington Union’s music programs, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), the WUHS Digital Media Production class and more!  Both educational and inclusion activities were held each day for the entire campus to participate in. Activities such as “Selfie with a Stranger” and “Fist Bump Day” were designed to help students interact with people they might not know. Different clubs hosted educational pop-ups at lunch and in the school library to help students understand the importance of the different cultures and student groups represented on campus.

The culminating event was a Unity celebration assembly, where the entire student body was present to see performances representing the different cultures and student groups on campus.
