Teachers at WUSD elementary schools have worked hard this year to learn new digital tools to help students meet their academic goals during distance learning. One of those tools is Seesaw, an educational app that allows students to interact with their learning and their teachers online.

According to its website, “Seesaw is a simple way for teachers and students to record and share what’s happening in the classroom. Seesaw gives students a place to document their learning, be creative and learn how to use technology.”

Using Seesaw, WUSD teachers can design and present lessons to students in a format that allows students to interact with those lessons by recording their voice, drawings, and typing a written response to demonstrate their understanding of daily learning objectives. Oral language is an important foundational skill for TK-2nd grade students and Seesaw provides these students with the opportunity to practice this skill.

Seesaw also allows teachers to collaborate as grade-level teams, taking turns each week/day to design the lessons, leaving more time for student support.  Parents and guardians have been an asset in this endeavor, supporting learning at home and students have responded positively to this new application.
