Director of Administrative Services
It is my privilege to welcome each and every family to the 2017-18 school year! We have been working hard all summer long to prepare the best educational experience for our students.
In 2017-18 we will launch Washington Unified’s early literacy initiative: Read 2 Succeed. It is our desire that all students read at grade level by 3rd grade through the support of their parents, community, and classroom. Our teachers have been preparing exciting lessons to help our students to meet this goal, including the implementation of Guided Reading, Units of Study, and the adoption of a new curriculum produced by National Geographic Learning. The district has also partnered with Footsteps2Brilliance to give every child in our community access to online books and reading games for free! We believe that with the help of parents and the community, we can build a strong foundation for academic achievement.
Our staff will continue its focus on developing a “Mathematical Mindset” in every child. Combining solid mathematical instruction with the latest research about how our brains develop, our teachers are ready to help their every student succeed in math.
We are also excited to announce a partnership with Bitwise Industries, Fresno’s innovative technology collaborative. Washington Union has led the Valley in the career pathway model for learning for the past decade. The Health Institute, Law and Justice Institute, and Wonderful Agriculture Career Prep Academy are just three of career pathways that students can complete as they prepare for college and career. Starting this fall, Washington Union hopes to expand its career pathway opportunities for students with a chance to learn about technology through real world experiences provided by Fresno’s leading experts in the field.
While there are many new and exciting changes ahead, our mission remains the same: to provide all students with an educationally advantaged future by developing personal growth through a rigorous curriculum, relevant instruction, and positive relationships in a culturally diverse environment. I’d like to invite you to join us in 2017-18 as we prepare our students for life-long success!
