WUSD is currently working with the Fresno County Department of Health and the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Health Office as both local and state health professionals continue to monitor novel coronavirus 2019 or COVID-19.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC for short, is also providing ongoing updates. We sent a letter to parents and our community on February 28th regarding our response and monitoring.  This letter, as well as an updated Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Frequently Asked Questions for Families document, is available on our website at www.washingtonunified.org.

WUSD schools will remain open at this time and District staff will continue to work with FCSS and the Fresno County Department of Health to ensure that appropriate health and safety precautions are in place.

WUSD urges families and staff to take commonsense precautions to prevent the spread of any infectious illnesses. You can reduce the spread of germs by following these precautions:

  • If you are sick, stay home.
  • Avoid close contact with those who are already sick.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or the crook of your arm. Throw used tissues into the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If you don’t have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer with an alcohol content of 60% or more is a great alternative.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects or surfaces.

In addition, our custodians are cleaning our classrooms and common areas each day, which is another layer in reducing the spread of several viruses, including COVID 19.

We will continue to keep you informed as we get more information.
