On May 1, 2020, the Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH) issued guidance to school districts on graduation ceremonies.
According to the guidance letter, schools must comply with an order issued by California State Health Officer, Dr. Sonia Angell and Governor Gavin Newsom, which prohibits public gatherings including in-person graduation ceremonies.
The letter also stated that the FCDPH “remains very concerned about the transmission of COVID-19 in our community,” citing what it has called “tragic outcomes” when larger in-person gatherings have taken place.
Washington Unified has joined with school districts throughout the Valley in planning alternative graduation celebrations.
